Early Childhood Screening
In Minnesota, preschool screenings, also known as Early Childhood Screenings (ECS), are free, developmental assessments required by state law for children before entering public kindergarten. These screenings help identify any potential developmental, health, or learning concerns early on. What Does the Screening Include? Developmental Screening – Checks cognitive, language, motor, and social skills. Vision & Hearing Tests – Identifies any early signs of issues. Height & Weight Measurements – Assesses growth patterns. Immunization Review – Ensures vaccines are up to date. Health & Family History – Helps identify any concerns that may affect learning. Who Needs a Screening? Children aged 3-5 (ideally around age 3). Required before kindergarten enrollment in Minnesota public schools.
